The building on the Herengracht dates from the 18th century. To protect the original panelling, all of the bookcases have been placed at a slight distance from the wall. The height of five metres has been fully exploited to keep the other walls free for the mounting of paintings. The combination of American walnut and stainless steel gives the room a sturdy look and feel. The suspended ceiling hangs loose from the original ceiling for acoustic reasons as well as to support the light system.
