Private homes
Laagte Kadijk, Amsterdam | 1997
This apartment in a modern flat was purchased as an empty shell (casco). We positioned the kitchen as a box in the middle of the room, allowing it to be walked around, while creating a dining-cum-living area. The entrance to the kitchen is flanked by two ceiling-high bookshelves that appear to form a gateway.
The space in the kitchen is also fully utilised with narrow cupboards which go up to the ceiling to emphasise the height. The kitchen has an open window for spatial sensation, and the closed side of the kitchen provides additional wall space for paintings and the like. Every effort has been made to exploit the limited space of the apartment to the maximum.
