Splendour and Glory | Art of the Russian Orthodox Church | 2011
Exhibition about the time-honoured traditions of the Russian Orthodox Church showing icons, fresco fragments, robes, paintings, historical books and gold and silver objects associated with Christian worship. An iconostasis is one of the highlights of over 300 religious artefacts on loan from the Hermitage St Petersburg and other renowned Russian collections.

The coloured walls enhance the various themes. In the great hall visitors picture themselves to be in a Russian Orthodox church with an iconostasis. Behind it are displays about the liturgy, the itinerant iconostasis and an AV programme about rituals. In the cabinets all aspects of saints and icons are presented, completed with interactive media. The exhibition concludes with an AV presentation about the history of the Orthodox Church after czarism. The exhibition accessories are inspired by the Russian Orthodox design vocabulary.
