The Glory of Amsterdam | Old Masters of Amsterdam | Amsterdam Historical Museum | 2009
The leading painters of the 17th and 18th century created many of their works in Amsterdam. Paintings of regents and members of the Civic Guard, portraits, allegories, and views of the city show the art of Amsterdam at its best. As was customary at the time, the paintings have been mounted side by side.
Audio-visual presentations guide the visitor along the sites for which the paintings were originally created: such as the City Hall, the Admiralty, the orphanages, and the homes for the poor. Stylised replicas of a Marksmen’s Hall, Regent Room, and a room in the City Hall allow visitors to place the paintings in their context.
